“Turning the Pages of Time: The Museum’s Oldest Book”

February 19 is Book Giving Day, as it marks the birthday of Hovhannes Tumanyan, the All-Armenian poet. Since 2008, this day has also been celebrated in Armenia as Book Giving Day.
Today, at the Yerevan History Museum, a discussion-lecture titled “Turning the Pages of Time: The Museum’s Oldest Book” took place. During the event, museum staff members S. Harutyunyan and N. Vasilyan introduced the museum’s written sources collection and presented the oldest book kept in the museum.

As a special surprise, Mrs. Nune Shamakhyan attended as a guest and donated her illustrated book, “Musical Instruments of the Armenian Highlands” («Հայկական լեռնաշխարհի երաժշտական գործիքները»), to the museum. Additionally, the ICOM Armenia National Committee, through its volunteers, presented the museum with a very important book-manual: practical guide to “First Aid for Cultural Heritage in Crisis Situations”.
By valuing books, we contribute to the development of reading culture, the advancement of education, and the preservation of written heritage. Books are our history, our memory, and the pillars of our identity.
