CHARITY AND THE ACTIVITY OF CHARITY ORGANIZATIONS IN YEREVAN IN THE LATE 19TH AND EARLY 20TH CENTURIES

Starting from the middle of the 19th century, charity activities are activated and charitable nongovernmental organizations are established alongside with the development of public life in Yerevan. If earlier charity was realized in Yerevan through individual initiatives, in the early 1880s, the first local benevolent organizations were established in Yerevan.
The appearance of such institutions in Yerevan testified of the development of urban life.
The activities of Yerevan charity organizations were particularly vigorous during the First World War. During those years, a number of new AllRussian charitable organizations were established to support the warring homeland, and their local branches were also operating in Yerevan.
